General Information


After completing his primary and secondary education in Istanbul, he graduated from the Nevzat Ayaz High School in 1998 as the top student and started his medical education at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in the same year. After completing his medical education in 2004, he started cardiovascular surgery residency at Dr. Siyami Ersek Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital in 2005. He finished his residency in 2012 and completed his compulsory service at Diyarbakır Training and Research Hospital between 2012-2014. In 2014, he started to work as a specialist in the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Acibadem University Atakent Hospital and started his academic life as a lecturer in the Perfusion Techniques Department of Acibadem University. In 2017, he was appointed as an assistant professor to Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Acibadem University Faculty of Medicine. After completing his academic studies in 2019, he received the title of Associate Professor. He still continues his academic life at Acıbadem University and works as a specialist in the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Acıbadem University Atakent Hospital.


During his residency, Assoc. Dr. Selim Aydin received training in Adult Cardiac Surgery, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He attended the Cardiac Surgery School held in Bergamo-Italy by the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS) in 2009, and he worked as an observer at the Heidelberg University Cardiac Surgery Clinic for a short time in 2011. During his compulsory service, he performed approximately 300 operations in the field of Adult Cardiac Surgery, Open Vascular and Endovascular Surgery together with his colleagues at the Diyarbakır Training and Research Hospital.


He has been continuing his specialization at Acibadem University Atakent Hospital since 2014, and contributed to the establishment and execution of the pediatric cardiac surgery program under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ersin Erek. He has supported over 2000 neonatal and pediatric cardiac surgery operations, including all kinds of complex cases, and has gained serious experience in neonatal, pediatric and adult applications of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), which provides artificial heart and lung support.


As a vascular surgeon, he successfully started the Endovascular Interventions Program at Acibadem University Atakent Hospital since 2015 and turned the hospital into a reference center for endovascular procedures. He successfully performs endovascular and open surgical procedures in all peripheral artery diseases especially in critical limb-threatening ischemia, acute and chronic deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm, iliac and peripheral artery aneurysms, and venous insufficiency (varicose veins). He continues his operations and studies on coronary artery disease, valvular diseases, aortic surgery, minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery.


He has more than 30 original articles in international and national journals and more than 60 oral and poster presentations. He also authored 3 book chapters about endovascular interventions and pediatric cardiac surgery. He has been a moderator and trainer in the courses organized by the Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery and the Turkish National Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society, and has contributed to national congresses and meetings as a moderator and speaker, especially on endovascular treatment of peripheral artery diseases.


He has memberships of the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS), the Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery (TSCVS) and the Turkish National Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society. 


He is married and has two children.
