About

Founded in 2023, the ACURARE-ACUTBAT Undergraduate Research Group is a unit operating in the fields of clinical, bioinformatics, and laboratory sciences. The group commenced its activities with 10 students during the 2023-2024 academic year. The group is led by prominent figures in their respective fields: Prof. Dr. Yasemin Alanay, Prof. Dr. Özden Hatırnaz Ng, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özlem Akgün Doğan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande Kaymakçalan Çelebiler, Asst. Prof. Kaya Bilguvar, and Asst. Prof. Özkan Özdemir.

The ACURARE-ACUTBAT Undergraduate Research Group focuses on the genetic foundations of rare diseases, aiming to diagnose and treat these diseases more effectively through clinical and laboratory methods. ACURARE also leads the Istanbul Undiagnosed Diseases Program (İst-UDP) under the Exceptional Project, which is the first platform in Turkey where undiagnosed patients and physicians can seek support.

Thanks to ACURARE’s bioinformatics infrastructure, it aims to biobank and analyze genetic data to gain a deeper understanding of disease mechanisms. Additionally, it provides a platform for students to receive education and conduct research in this field, contributing to the development of young scientists.

With its multidisciplinary approach, the ACURARE-ACUTBAT Undergraduate Research Group aims to play a crucial role in diagnosing undiagnosed patients and advancing research and development in the field of rare diseases. In this context, by involving medical students, it aims to make innovative contributions to healthcare services through studies in genetic science, clinical practice, and bioinformatics.
