Biography

Pınar Şengül is a neuropsychologist and neuroscientist based in Istanbul and London. She holds an MSc in Neuropsychology and Neuroscience from the University of London, where her thesis examined the effects of vegan, vegetarian, and omnivorous diets on memory performance. Her findings suggested that higher consumption of animal products was associated with poorer working memory outcomes.

Alongside her research, she provides neuropsychological support to individuals with neurodevelopmental and neurological conditions. She is particularly committed to working with neurodivergent children and adolescents, and advocates for an approach that respects individual variation rather than relying on rigid diagnostic labels such as those in the DSM or ICD. She believes neurodiversity is not a deficit but a necessary expression of human variation.

She runs her own psychological counselling centre in Maslak and Levent under the brand Theraπ, where she sees children, adolescents, and families through integrative, neuropsychology-informed approaches.

Pınar is also the Turkish translator of Peter Singer’s book Why Vegan?, published by Penguin Books and later released in Turkish by Ayrıntı Yayınları in 2022. Her work and public commentary on brain health and plant-based living have been featured internationally, including in The Independent, Daily Mail, and other major media outlets.

Outside of academia and clinical work, she writes a personal blog reflecting on psychology, philosophy, and the human condition. She was a professional swimmer in her early teens and has practised ballet since childhood.

She remains deeply inspired by the music of her brother, Atilla Volga, a composer of alternative rock whose work continues to shape her creative life.
