I was born in Istanbul and completed all my education there. I graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry. I received my Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in the Biochemistry Program from the same university in 1996 and 2002, respectively.
I began my research career as a research assistant in the Department of Chemistry-Biochemistry at Marmara University. After obtaining my Ph.D., I worked as a visiting scientist at UC Davis, USA, for six months, and then as a postdoctoral fellow in the Plant Biotechnology Program at Middle East Technical University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mahinur S. Akkaya between 2005 and 2011.
In 2011, I continued my postdoctoral research at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) under the supervision of Dr. Christof Rampitsch, focusing on plant–pathogen interactions for six months, and our collaborative projects and research activities have continued since then.
During this period, I also served as an Assistant Professor at 19 Mayıs University, Sinop Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry (2005–2009).
I was awarded the title of Associate Professor in Biochemistry at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University in 2014 and the title of Professor in Biochemistry in 2021. I have been pursuing a second Ph.D. in the Neuroscience Program at Acıbadem University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Filiz Onat since 2021.
