Objective: A review focusing on data from studies conducted in Turkey on adult attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which received increasing attention lately, both in the world and in our country still does not exist. Therefore, this study aimed to summarize sthe reuslts of studies conducted in Turkey on this issue. Methods: PubMed and Turkish Psychiatry Literature search engines were searched. Dissertations conducted in Training and Education Hospitals and SSK Hospital of the Health Ministry of the Turkish Republic were reached electronically and those focusing on adult ADHD were evaluated. Results: Adult ADHD was evaluated among psychiatric out and inpatients in six studies. Among traumatized patients applying to therapy and offenders diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder one study, each was conducted to determine adult ADHD. Two studies, each, were conducted on psychopathology among parents of children with ADHD, oxidative metabolism in adult ADHD and neuropsychological findings among patients with adult ADHD. No study evaluating the treatment of cases diagnosed with adult ADHD in a randomized-controlled fashion could be found. Discussion: The results from studies conducted in our country also support the proposition that adult ADHD is a severe, neurodevelopmental disorder that carries additional costs other than treatment with life-long effects. It can be said that adult ADHD may be an important public health problem also in our country and that further multi-site, randomized-controlled studies on patients from both genders, designed prospectively, and focusing on various aspects of this disorder, especially its treatment are needed.
