Özet
Calcific tendonitis (CT) of rotator cuff tendons is a common cause of shoulder pain. The exact etiopathogenesis of CT is unknown, but it is thought to be a result of an active cell-mediated process. Nonsurgical modalities are the mainstay of the treatment. However, some patients fail to respond to nonsurgical treatment and may require surgery. Surgical methods include either open or arthroscopic removal of the calcific deposits. Arthroscopic surgery has become more popular due to its advantages such as shorter hospital stay and superior cosmetic appearance. The role of acromioplasty and repair of residual tendon defects after arthroscopic removal of the deposits still remains unclear.
