Abstract

Background Conclusions These data demonstrate a substantial burden of RSV-associated illness among hospitalised older adults in Türkiye. Precise quantification of the burden of RSV in adults, particularly among those with comorbidities, will inform future preventative strategies to protect high-risk populations. • Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can cause severe disease, resulting in hospitalisation and intensive care unit (ICU) admission in older adults and those with underlying medical conditions.1,2 • However, in Türkiye, RSV testing is not routinely performed in adults with acute respiratory infection (ARI), and physicians’ awareness of RSV and its prevention remains limited.3,4 • These factors, combined with diagnostic limitations, contribute to an underestimation of the true burden of RSV among older adults globally,2 and more robust local data are required. Objective Results Methods Digital poster Burden of respiratory syncytial virus infection among hospitalised adults aged ≥50 years with acute respiratory infection in Türkiye: A prospective, multicentre study I To determine the prevalence of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)-confirmed RSV infection among hospitalised adults ≥50 years old with ARI in Türkiye.
