Phthalocyanines due to their extended macrocyclic structures can be utilized in many high-techapplications [1]. Sandwich lanthanide bisphthalocyanines are composed of two phthalocyanine macrocyclic rings sandwiching a Lanthanide ion [2]. Such Lanthanide bisphthalocyanine complexes can have different redox states, and can therefore be used as the optical redox sensors for the detection of some biomolecules like NADH [3]. On the other hand, poly(ε- caprolactone) (PCL) polymers, as important biodegradable and biocompatible polymers, have been utilized in biomedical applications such as production of backbones and biomaterials in tissue engineering field [4].

In order to render double decker biocompatible complexes, octa and hexadeca hydroxylated Lu phthalocyanines have been prepared and utilized as initiator for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone. Their synthesis and characterization as well as ROP experiments will be presented.
