INTRODUCTION Fresh frozen human cadavers have been
used at surgical training. Using fresh cadavers has advantages. The method has
real tissue quality and handling. On the other hand, finding cadavers for
educational purposes is a hard process. Therefore, we purpose to do multiple
usage of fresh frozen cadavers. Potentiating the cadaver ability is also our
aim. For instance, after surgical courses.
RESOURCES Normally, fresh frozen cadavers are
conserved at minus 17 °C. In order to
use cadavers for training, the procedure
starts with thawing. After using for training, they are kept frozen. When
thawing and freezing procedure is sustained, the cadavers are not kept for repetitive using.
DESCRIPTION First of all two fresh frozen lower
extremities were used in surgical hip arthroscopy course. And then all legs were conserved at minus 17 °C
degree. All legs were had the same procedure which included three times thawing-freezing process. When
the surgical course was over, formalin injection was done to femoral and
popliteal artery.
RESULT Formalin injection fixed the lower extremities.
After that they are preserved succesfully.
SIGNIFICANCE Multiple usage of fresh frozen cadavers
are possible if they are preserved with formalin. By this way fresh cadavers
can be effective for repetitive usage for educational purposes.
