Özet
Objective: To find out the mean dissolving period for vaginally applied nonoxynol-9 tablets. Study Design: Forty women were randomly separated into 8 groups. Each group had a different exposure time of the tablets to the vagina starting from 2 minutes. Result: The nonoxynol-9 tablets were found to start dissolving at the second minute, at the seventh minute up to 80 % of the tablet dissolved and all dissolved at the ninth minute. The mean time of dissolving was 8.2 ± 0.2 minutes. Vaginal infection and dryness had no effect on the period of dissolving after the seventh minute. Conclusion: Women who are planning to use vaginal nonoxynol-9 for contraception should be informed about the minimum tablet application-coitus interval which was found to be minimum 8 minutes.
