  Course Description:

  This course will focus on in vitro and in vivo approaches for developing novel treatments based on genetically modified human cells. Lectures will cover the basic aspects immunobiology, cancer immunology, vector design and the use of genetically modified immune cells to treat cancer. Special focus will be given to the biotechnological processes and regulatory framework necessary to translate experimental findings in cancer immunology into clinical practice.

   

  Intended Learning Outcomes:

  After the course, the student should be able to;

  1.     Explain the basic working mechanisms of the immune system with special reference to cancer immunology

  2.     Present an overview of current clinical applications in cancer immunotherapy

  3.     Explain techniques that are used for genetic modification of human immune cells.

  4.     Have an understanding of the regulatory requirements and ethical issues concerning clinical trials in cancer immunotherapy.
