Özet

Various surgical alternatives exist for the treatment of bladder-outlet obstruction caused by an enlarged prostate. The aim of this study is to assess the role of holmium:YAG laser in the surgical treatment of BPH. Between September and December 1996, 21 patients diagnosed as BPH by physical examination, laboratory rests and urodynamic studies underwent transurethral Holmium Laser Resection of the Prostate (HoLRP). No peroperative complication was observed and none of the patients required blood transfusion. Mean hospitalization and postoperative catheterization period was about one day. Pre and postoperative IPSS symptom score and urodynamic studies revealed significant improvements in both symptom score, maximum flow rate and amount of post-voiding residual urine. One patient required reoperation at the 8. week because of an urethral stricture. Our preliminary results gives us the impression that HoLRP is one of the best surgical alternatives of TUR-P.
