Ethics, Three Rs and One Health
A scientific collaboration under EU funded COST Action
In today's medicine and science, use of laboratory animals in research is still unavoidable. On the other hand the animal welfare in scientific research continues to be a controversial topic of discussion with regards to the animal welfare. The contemporary bioethics emphasized the reality of animals as sentient, living beings and admonishes the care of animals in research.
This study of sub-group constituted under CA 21139 COST Action -IMPROVE aims to discuss the bioethical values and principles underlying use of animals in scientific research. A group of multidisciplinary scholars (vetenarians, animal researchers, philosophers, ethicists, legists (all members of the COST Action) work on a paper in the argument stated above. This is a voluntary initiative recorded under afore-mentioned COST Action, therefore it does not use any budgetary funds. It holds meeting online and in person reimbursed by the COST Action.
The group prioritizes highlighting the socially responsible, careful and human use animals treated in an egalitarian manner in animal research. The social impact of the project lies in the main objective of how to Replace, Reduce and Refine animals during research to respect animal welfare and human dignity. The team tries to explore the concept of One Health and One Medicine in these respects.
