Proje Özeti
Breast cancer with high malignancy is the leading cause of cancer death in women. SIK2 modulations in MDA-MB-231 and MCF12A breast cell lines indicate that SIK2 suppresses cell proliferation and survival processes by inhibiting ERK and Akt activations. Our studies also point out that SIK2 may contribute to the regulation of cellular adhesion and invasion. Xenograft experiments support the possibility that the gene exerts its effect on the suppression of tumor growth by modulating proliferation and apoptosis. In light of all these findings, we propose that SIK2 is a novel tumor suppressor gene and that decreases in its expression/activity contribute to breast tumorigenesis
