Hypoxic injury promoted by ischemia, mainly in cardiovascular diseases, remains to be an important therapeutic challenge. The results of the proposed study are expected to reveal the interlinked signaling pathways of cell death in hypoxia-tolerant BMR that could offer new targets for therapeutic approaches to minimize hypoxic damage in human heart disease. The study will also offer international training opportunities for graduate students while using an unusual animal model by advanced techniques. Finally, the results of the study will lead to formulate new hypotheses for future studies in collaboration with the established international network.
