Özet:
The “One Health and Animal Research Symposium” will be organized by the students of Acıbadem University School of Medicine on May 8, 2026 at Acıbadem University Ataşehir Campus. This symposium aims to address human, animal, and environmental health from a holistic perspective, and to discuss the ethical and scientific aspects of animal welfare in biomedicine as well as recent developments in the field.
Aim: This symposium aims to explore the interconnected nature of human, animal, and environmental health through the One Health Concept, while examining the ethical and scientific aspects of animal welfare and the use of animal models in research. It also intends to highlight emerging alternatives and recent developments in biomedical science.
Content: One Health is an approach to designing and implementing programs, policies, legislation and research in which multiple sectors communicate and work together to achieve better public health outcomes. The One Health approach is critical to addressing health threats in the animal - human-environment interface in exemplification.

This Symposium is designed as a social responsibility project with the aim of strengthening medical students’ health advocacy knowledge and ethical awareness regarding the significance of One Health at regional and global level by linking the health of humans, animals and the environment. One Health can help to address the full spectrum of disease control from prevention to detection, preparedness, response and management – and contribute to global health security. Students are expected to have insight into the ethical basis of the One Health with the idea of One Ethics by the help of critically reasoning the bioethical principles of Considering Heath as a Social Responsibility, Benefit & Harm Analysis”; Equality & Justice”, “Respecting Biodiversity”, “Protecting Future Generations” (UNESCO Universal Declaration of Bioethics of Human Rights and Bioethics https://www.unesco.org/en/ethics-science-technology/bioethics-and-human-rights ) Additionally, One Ethics is a theory of equality that connects culture to nature, as a coextensive approach to public health; One Health and Animal Welfare also alludes to interconnections or interdependencies between species, and shared interests in the places they live (Capps, B.
